If you’ve opted-into any SMS marketing lists from some big brand names in the last few years, I’m sure you’ve seen a major blunder like this a time or two. Everything seemed so well thought out so you join the list & get your first text back with a link to a website. “Ooooh sweeet, you exclaim!” (on the inside) “I can visit their website from my smart phone & check product availability, buy products, make reservations, & everything!” Then, the foreshadowing creepy music starts to play in the background & as you click the link, everything plays in slow motion. “Nooooooooooooooo!!” a voice drones from the background. Lo & behold displaying in front of you is the image on the very left of this paragraph. A normal website that is not optimized for mObile smart phones. It’s big, it’s bulky, it’s not pleasing to pinch & zoom, scroll, pinch & zoom, scroll. Whew! I’m exhausted just typing it. If you’re sending out offers through SMS marketing, please oh please for the love of all that is good, to make sure that if you include a link to a website, that it’s a mObile optimized website for smart phones. Have you tested it on an iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Windows phone, & every other old model from 2006? If you haven’t, then there might be some discrepancies & customers who won’t be able to access your site.
Do you have flash on your site? Hope not, because Steve Jobs hated Flash & it won’t work on an iPhone or iPad. If this has never happened to you, & don’t believe me check out these mObile marketing FAIL posts where big brands blow it big time! You’d think billion dollar companies hire the best & brightest right? Ha! In a perfect world, yes. If I were president, of course!
