Since we’re heading into 2013 now, I’m sure many of you have either experienced this or at least know someone who has been a victim of SMS SPAM. If it’s any consolation, I too have been a target of this shady tactic. Since we’re staying positive here for the new year, I’m gonna explain how we can fight back against the spammers.
Enter the GSMA, which is a global agency representing 800 of the world’s mobile operators spanning over 200 countries. They launched a program last year to allow consumers to report text message spam. If you get a nasty annoying text spammer spamming you, all you have to do is forward the message to the short code 7726, which coincidentally spells “SPAM” on your phone. (not a coincidence actually)
This doesn’t mean that once you report it, Johnny Law comes in & takes the perpetrators away in cuffs. It just means that they will log it, investigate it, & it’s up to the mObile carriers themselves to actually do something about it. At least it’s a quick way to deal with the situation for busy people (aren’t we all?). It’s no SPAM button in your e-mail client, but hey, before it used to be a longggggggg form process akin to doing your taxes…eeeekk!
So now that we’re in 2013, & none of us have experienced the hoax of the Mayan Sun’s nuclear holocaust where only cockroaches & Twinkies survive, are you ready to start integrating mObile marketing into your business?
